Tapping for Perfectionism
Perfectionism is described in the dictionary as refusing to accept any standard short of perfection. Although many “perfectionists” are high achievers, they are also people who are extremely hard on themselves. As a perfectionist myself, I often experience harsh self-criticism and negative self-talk that can be rather discouraging.
At a subconscious level, many of us experience perfectionism because we feel like we won’t be good enough if we are anything less than perfect. We tie our self-worth to our external achievements, therefore putting an immense amount of pressure on ourselves to be perfect. This can sometimes be incredibly motivating, however going through life with this mindset can lead us to having low self-esteem and low self-worth. Always expecting perfection can be exhausting.
In this tapping script, we will acknowledge the pressure we put on ourselves to be perfect, and then begin the process of cultivating self-acceptance. The antidote to being a perfectionist is accepting yourself and honoring your worth no matter how perfect or imperfect something turns out. This self-acceptance can set us free and bring us deep inner peace; something perfectionists struggle to feel.
Tap along as we shift our mindsets from perfectionism to self-acceptance and inner peace.
Rate your level of perfectionism on a scale of 0-10, with ten being the strong feeling of being a perfectionist, and zero being no feeling towards being a perfectionist.
