Introduction

What a book!  Awaken the Giant Within is such a motivational, inspirational book, packed with knowledge.  Although this book is rather long (over 500 pages), it will keep you engaged and growing after each chapter.  Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins is one of those books that is so powerful, it could easily become the turning point in your Personal- Development journey.  In this article, I will be sharing with you some of my favorite parts of the book, and a general overview of what to expect when you pick up this book.  Let’s get to it!

Pain vs Pleasure

The main theme of Awaken the Giant Within is the concept of Pain vs Pleasure.

Tony Robbins simply lays out how people think.  All decisions we make have to do with pain and pleasure.  We will do things that either give us pleasure, or avoid pain.  So, if you have been struggling with procrastination for example, the theme of this book will give you great insight as to how to break bad habits, and trade them in for new, empowering ones.

Throughout the book, the concept of Pain vs Pleasure arises.  Each chapter dives deeper into the reasons people do things, and therefore helps clarify this simple but important concept.

Beliefs

Early on in Awaken the Giant Within, Tony talks about Beliefs Systems.  If you’ve ever felt like you are stuck in your growth, whether it be personally or professionally, your beliefs play a big part.  Robbins goes in-depth about how your belief systems are shaped.  Through entertaining stories, and plenty of science, you will have a solid understanding about your beliefs.

A great thing about this book are all the solutions provided.  If you realize you’re holding onto some disempowering beliefs, fear not!  The author gives you plenty of solutions as to how to change a disempowering belief into empowering belief.

These solutions are step by step processes you can apply to your situation right away.  Grab a notebook and a pen, and start changing your life today.

Emotional Control

Our emotions play such a big role in how we perceive our lives.  In this book, you will have the opportunity to change your emotional state into one that allows you to fully enjoy life.  There were a few things that I found incredibly useful in this section of the book that I will briefly discuss below.

You will discover how to:

  • Get clear on what you want to feel on a daily basis.
  • Start asking yourself Empowering Questions.
  • Start using Habitual Vocabulary that empowers you.
  • Learn the power of Metaphors, and how to use them.
  • Use your emotions as insights to help change your emotional state.

There is so much value inside this book!  Each chapter is full of great insights, and leaves you with new strategies to make your life feel fantastic.

Goal Setting

I enjoyed each and every chapter of this book, but my favorite part of the book was the chapter on Goal Setting.  This section of the book was so engaging and fun.  Not to mention, totally inspirational!

Inside Awaken the Giant Within, you will get to map out a compelling future for yourself.  This book will (hopefully!) spark your desire to aim high and dream big.

You will lay out four categories of goals:

  1. Personal Development Goals
  2. Career/Business/Economic Goals
  3. Toy/Adventure Goals
  4. Contribution Goals

There was something about the enthusiasm in this chapter that seemed to jump right off the page and right inside of me.  I thoroughly enjoyed using my wildest imagination to set compelling life goals for myself.

Life Values

Whether you are aware of your Life Values, or unaware of your Life Values, Awaken the Giant Within will take your understanding of them to a whole new level.

Tony Robbins has a very interesting take on Life Values.  Not only does he explain why they are so important, but he also encourages you to make not one, but two lists of values.  One list of values you’d like to move toward, and one list of values you’d like to move away from.  Until I read this book, I had never even considered the values I move away from.  Going back to the theme of Pain vs Pleasure, the list of values you’d like to move toward are meant to bring pleasure to your life, and the list of values you’d like to move away from are the values that would bring you the most pain.

After creating your two lists of values, Robbins goes one step further and asks you to evaluate your values.  He encourages you to carefully reflect on your values, and figure out if your lists of values will help you reach your goals.  This was another completely new concept to me.  I had never considered the fact that my values may actually be holding me back, rather than propelling me forward.  I was opened up to new possibilities after adopting a set of values that better aligned with my goals.

Personal Identity

Who are you?

Funny thing is, not many people take the time to figure that out, myself included.  The chapter on Identity will help you reach a greater understanding of yourself.  There’s something so empowering about knowing exactly who you are, and who you want to be.  Through several different exercises, you will discover your true identity.  And you will also be given the opportunity to completely reinvent yourself.  You can be whoever you want to be!

You’ll be walking away from this chapter of Awaken the Giant Within with a new sense of confidence in yourself.

Conclusions

Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins is jam packed with value.  Each page is filled with invaluable knowledge about how people think, react, and become successful.  A unique, entertaining, and motivational Personal-Development book through and through.  I cannot recommend you to get a copy of this book enough!
